Honors Diploma

The honors diploma represents an excellence program at the high school and is designed to challenge students to reach their highest potential. The Slater Board of Education approved the following guidelines on May 22, 2007. Students seeking an honors diploma must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. If for some reason one or more of the required courses should not be offered, the student must substitute those courses with courses from one of the other areas marked with an asterisk below.

 

This course list is for class of 2010 and beyond. For the classes of 2008 and 2009 all courses are the same except the addition of 1/2 credit of Personal Finance and the 1/2 credit of Health Education.

3 Math*

3 Science*

2 Foreign Language (same language)

1 Physical Education

1 Fine Art

1 Practical Art

1/2 Personal Finance

1/2 Health Education

5 Elective Credits

 

Courses that count toward an Honors Diploma:

Language*- Language Arts I, II, III, IV, Contemporary Literature, Mythology, AP English, College English.

Social Studies*- Dual Credit American History, Dual Credit American Government, American History, World History, Government, Law, Geography, Psychology, Sociology

Math*- Algebra I, II, III, Math Analysis, Dual Credit College Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Applied Math II (Only if in conjunction with Algebra I and Algebra II)

Science*- Biology I, II, AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Physics, Chemistry

 

Courses that DON'T count toward an Honors Diploma:

Applied Courses (Applied Communications, Applied Math I, Applied Biology and Chemistry, Principles of Technology, Economics at Work, Interdisciplinary Approaches to Industrial Technology) as well as general or basic classes (Consumer Math, Speech/Theater, Creative Writing, Communications, Satire/Humor, Fundamentals of Algebra).
